Instructor Jeanine Thomson

My Jujitsu training started at the age of 6. The South African Ju-Jitsu Federation (SAJJF) permitted me to grade for my Shodan and I received it in 2005. During this time I was under the supervision of Sensei Jonathan Thomson. In 2008 I was under the supervision of Sensei Andre Prins and at the end of 2008 he passed the junior club over to me. I have since then opened a senior club, in 2013. My junior and senior classes have the main background of self-defense. In 2013, I received my Nidan from the SAJJF.

The Garsfontein Junior Jujitsu Dojo was passed on from Sensei Andre Prins to Sensei Jeanine Thomson in the end of 2008.

In 2013 Sensei Jeanine Thomson also opened the Garsfotein Senior Dojo.

The training sessions for the junior classes are on Monday and Wednesday from 18:00-19:00. The training sessions for the senior classes are on Monday and Wednesday from 19:00-20:00.

The ages for the junior classes range from 6 to 14 years of age and the senior classes are 15 years of age and up.

The main focus of the classes, by using Kawashi Jujitsu, is for Self-Defence. This ranges from unarmed attack to armed attacks. The Self-Defence is divided into 4 phases:

  1. Moving out of the attackers path
  2. By using the techniques taught in class, to control the attacker
  3. By using the techniques taught in class, to disarm the attacker
  4. By using the techniques taught in class, to disable the attacker

Both senior and junior classes focus on this, but the level of complexity varies according to the age group of the students.
