Gojukan Dojo was passed on from Shihan Tommy Thomson to Sensei Jonathan Thomson in 2002.

We were first situated in Pretoria, but moved to Johannesburg in May 2010.

In 2015 Sensei Jonathan Thomson moved to Cape Town to open a Dojo there. The Cape Town Dojo will officially open November 2015.

Training sessions are during the week evenings, with occasional weekend training sessions.

  1. During the week we train Japanese Kawaishi Jujitsu and Sport Jujitsu
  2. Tuesday evenings:
    1. Juniors (7yrs - 15yrs): 17:00 - 17:45
    2. Seniors (16 yrs+): 18:00 - 19:00
  3. Thursday evenings:
    1. Juniors (7yrs - 15yrs):17:00 - 17:45
    2. Seniors (16 yrs+): 18:00 - 19:00
  4. Occasional Saturday training/social

Japanese Kawaishi Jujitsu

Our Japanese Kawaishi Jujitsu training sessions consist of Kawaishi Jujitsu techniques, Self-Defence from an unarmed attacker as well as an armed attacker. These are divided into 4 phases which consist of:

  1. Getting out of the way (closing the distance)
  2. Controlling the attacker
  3. Disarming the attacker
  4. Disabling the attacker

Sport Jujitsu

Our Sport Jujitsu training sessions consist of Competition Self-Defence, Kumite and Grappling

  1. Self-Defence - Set competition attacks where you will learn how to defend yourself
  2. Kumite / Standup Fighting / Sparring - Controlled sparring with safety gear which are divided into 3 phases: Punching and Kicking, Takedowns / Throws and Grappling
  3. Grappling / Ground Fighting - Controlled grappling with gi divided into 3 phases: Gaining position, Escaping and Submissions
